Swashbuckling adventure, elaborate sets and costumes, moonlit
romance, and gorgeous songs—plus a working guillotine!
What a spectacular, thrilling, and hilarious finale to our 32nd season!
This Broadway musical outfitted the classic story with a stunning
musical score and bravura performances. Wayne Bryan
directed this show again, as he happily did in California in 2002,
and was reunited with his teammates, choreographer Julie
Letsche and musical director Michael Borth.
The sets and costumes were from the Broadway / National Touring companies,
and were really spectacular. You can see pictures of the original production,
with lots of fascinating information, at www.thepimpernel.com.
Starring in the demanding title role was Damon Kirsche,
whom the L.A. Daily News called “musical theatre star material.”
As handsome and dashing as any screen cavalier you’ve seen,
he is also possessed of a stunning baritone-tenor voice, plus amazing
abilities as an actor. For more about Damon, who made his MTW
debut with this show, go to his website www.damonkirsche.com.
Opposite him as the mysterious Marguerite St. Just was Broadway Beauty
Kim Huber. And we mean that literally. After three
summers with us as a young performer (including the role of Connie
in Good News!, preserved on our acclaimed cast album) she went immediately
to Broadway with Beauty and the Beast, eventually playing Belle both
on Broadway and on the National Tour. Other Broadway appearances include
the role of Betty in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard.
Playing her brother Armand was Chris Peluso, so memorable
as Younger Brother in MTW’s Ragtime, and seen as leading man
Tom Marlowe earlier this season in Good News! Justin Robertson
(MTW’s How to Succeed…, Good News!) repeated the role of
Ozzy, the bounder, which he played so amusingly in California.
