Music Theatre of Wichita, at opening night of Les Miserables, has tentatively announced the shows to be produced in its 38th summer season next year.

All five shows are multiple Tony Award winners, and each will be locally produced with Broadway artists working hand-in-hand with talented Midwesterners, selected in a nation-wide talent search to be held in March of 2009.

Two classic shows (not seen at MTWichita for more than 20 years) have been confirmed for the 2009 season, and they are CAMELOT (last produced in 1988) and KISS ME KATE (not done since 1978). This will mark the professional area locally of the 1999 revised Broadway version of KISS ME KATE.

Two new-to-MTWichita titles have also been confirmed: MISS SAIGON and Mel Brooks’ THE PRODUCERS.

The fifth title will also be a new-to-MTWichita show, hopefully the recent Broadway hit THE DROWSY CHAPERONE.  (This title not yet confirmed.)

A sixth show will be produced as an “added attraction,” not part of the five-show subscription series, but seats made first available to subscribers. Its title will be announced after Septermber 22, for contractual reasons.

The play dates are:

Show #1 - June 10 - 14
Show #2 - June 24 - 28
Show #3 - July 8 - 12
Show #4 - July 22 - 26
Show #5 - August 5 - 9
Plus
Added show – August 20 – 23
(* show titles and play dates may be subject to change)
